Description
Patmos is a small Greek island in the Aegean Sea, part of the Dodecanese group. In biblical history, Patmos is most famous as the place where the Apostle John received the vision recorded in the Book of Revelation. According to Revelation 1:9, John was exiled to Patmos “because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.” This likely happened during the persecution of Christians under the Roman Emperor Domitian in the late 1st century. The island, isolated and rocky, became a divine meeting place where John received prophetic visions concerning the end times. Today, Patmos is considered a sacred Christian site, and the Cave of the Apocalypse is a major pilgrimage destination.
